RAE tubes Flashcards
what are some relative contradictions for a RAE tube
large nasal polyps
suspected nasal foreign bodies
recent nasal surgery
upper neck hematoma or infection
history of frequent episodes of epistaxis
prosthetic heart valves (increase infection risk due to introduction of nasal flora)
When do we use Nasal RAE
- maxillofacial and dental procedures.
- with small mouth masses or lesions
- trismus
list the absolute contraindication of nasal RAE
- suspected epiglottis
- midface instability
- coagulopathy (hemorrhage risk)
- basil skull fracture
- apnea or respiratory arrest
Nasal RAE complications
- epistaxis
- damage to nasal cavity
- aspiration
- vagal stimulation
- laryngospasm
- vocal cord damage
- infection
- pneumothorax
What is a Dual lumen ETT?
isolates only lung for specific situation such as surgeries, contamination risk prevention, bronchial lavage, different ventilatory patterns for both lungs.
CPAP stands for
Continuous positive airway pressure. Useful in dual lumen ETT, to maintain non-ventilated lung
endobronchial blocker
blocks one lung while other is being ventilated
armored tube
stainless steel imbedded in plastic ( prevents kinking)
soft and flexible (may require stylet)
is apply on patients that have head and neck surgeries or neurosurgery
Endotrol ETT
ETT with loop attached to plastic cable that can help bend it while intubating
EDD ( esophageal detection device)
great for checking ETT placement
- consist of squeezing a bulb or a syringe and waiting for this one to re inflate. provides instant feedback
