How does a conventional channel work?
- Older frequencies
- Like a 1 lane hwy
- Easy to step on some another transmission/get bonked
How does a trunked channel work?
- Newer technology/frequencies
- Multi-banded channel, like a freeway where it chooses the free-est lane
- Allows for less bonking/interference
Are most channels trunked or conventional?
Conventional
Does direct vs. repeated dictate whether a channel is trunked or conventional?
No
What is a direct channel?
Antennae to antennae, like a walkie-talkie
What is a repeated channel?
Travels to mountain-top repeater, and bounces back. Allows for a farther range of transmission
Describe UHF vs. VHF
-UHF: ultra-high frequency, clearer transmission, shorter distances but better/wider range of frequencies
- VHF: very-high frequency, lesser frequency range, less clear, but travels further
Does direct vs. repeated affect scanning?
No
Does trunked vs. conventional affect scanning?
Yes
Can only scan all trunked, or all conventional
