Radiology Pictures Final Flashcards
Pathology
Tarlov or Arachnoid Cyst
Pathology

Empty Sella
-Normal sella = 16x12 mm
Pathology

Basiliar Invagination from Arnold-Chiari malformation
-Notice the disruption of Chamberlain and/or McGregors lines along with a Syrinx (syringomyelia) posterior to C2
Pathology

Pituitary Macroadenoma
-One potential cause of Empty Sella seen on X-ray
Pathology

Neurofibroma
-Benign nerve sheath tumors
Pathology

Multiple Sclerosis
Pathology

Subdural Hematoma
- Concave = Subdural = Vein
- Convex = Epidural = Artery

Pathology

Epidural Hematoma
Pathology

Hydatid disease
Pathology

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm
- Normal = < 3 cm
- >5 cm is serious (possible surgical intervention)
Pathology
-Patient is an alcoholic

Pancreatic lithiasis
-look for midline densities around L1, L2, and L3 (lateral shows them as anterior to the lumbar spine)
Pathology

Hiatal Hernia
-Sliding is the MC
Pathology

Bowel Blockage
- if 3 or more fluid levels in air pockets = blockage
- or see a Zig-Zag appearance
Radiographic sign
-What is the Dx?

Napkin Ring / Apple Core
-Colorectal Cancer
Pathology
- No blood in stool
- No clinical s/s

Colon Polyp
-No blood or clinical s/s make colon cancer less likely since they both look similar on CT (virtual colonoscopy)
Pathology
-Lateral shows calcification anteiror to the vertebral bodies
Cholelithiasis
-If calcification is on or posterior to vertebral bodies = Kidney stones
Radiographic Sign
-What does it indicate?

Milk of Calcium bile
-from chronic obstruction of the gall bladder probably from gallstones
Radiographic sign
-Is any follow up required?

Porcelain gallbladder
-YES! can turn into adenocarcinoma
What caused this patient to have Atelectasis?

Pleural Mesothelioma
-Extrapleural sign is evident on the lateral part of the lung field (increased density represents the tumor)
Pathology
-What differential is used for tumors in this location?

Teratoma of the Anterior Mediastinum
-3 T’s and an H ( Thymoma, Teratoma, Thyroid goiter, Hodgkin’s)
Pathology

Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome
-No clear heart shadow because of fluid in the air space
+Silhouette sign bilateral
Pathology
-Stone cutter for 30 years

Silicosis (type of Pneymoconiosis)
-Reticulonodular pattern (looks like a interstitial disease)
Pathology

Pneumothorax
Radiographic Sign
-What is the Pathology?

Angle Wing Appearance (Giant Tubers)
Dx: Sarcoidosis

Pathology

Bladder Calculi
Pathology

Phleboliths
-DO NOT CONFUSE with bladder calculi
Pathology
-Lateral appears to show calcifications inside the vertebral bodies and posterior to the spine.

Nephrolithiasis
Pathology

Uterine Fibroma
-looks like bladder stone or phleboliths, but the fact it is in the superior part of the pelvis makes fibroids more likely.
