radiology image Flashcards
Cervical Burnout
Dental papilla
A small, rounded, radiolucent area in the trabecular bone, surrounded by a thin
layer of hyperostotic bone (thick radiopaque outlines).
Lamina dura
When the x-ray beam is directed through a relatively long expanse of the structure, the lamina dura appears
radiopaque and well defined. When the beam is directed more obliquely, the lamina dura appears more diffuse
and may not be discernible.
Alveolar crest
within 1.5mm of CEJ
Continuous with lamina
dura
PDL
Space between root surface and lamina dura.
• Usually thinner in the middle of the root and slightly wider near the alveolar crest and root apex
Intermaxillary suture (median palatine suture)
Anterior nasal spine
nasal aperture
concha
septum
floor of the nasal cavity
Incisive (nasopalatine) foramen
nasopalatine canal
superior foramina of the nasopalatine canal
lateral (incisive fossa)
nose (soft tissue)
nasolacrimal canal
You are seeing the inferior foramen, which drains under the inferior concha into
the nasal cavity.
