Remember also that parts of the large bowel are retroperitoneal, while others are intraperitoneal - the transverse colon is suspended by the transverse mesocolon so it is more mobile than the ascending or descending colon either side of it, which are retroperitoneal. In this image you can see the transverse colon forming a “Z” shape in the centre of the abdomen as it loops and bends back upon itself. See if you can identify any other parts of the large bowel
