Radiology Flashcards
What is a characteristic appearance of the abdomen on plain radiograph in a patient with ascites?
Hazy picture with no kidney silhouette or psoas margins. Bowel loops are centrally located.
What is suspected when a plain radiograph reveals air under the diaphragm?
Pneumoperitonitis most likely caused by bowel perforation.
What are the measurements that indicate dilated bowels for:
- Small Bowel
- Large Bowel
- Cecum
- > 2.5-3cm
- > 5cm
- > 8cm
Most common type of malignant liver tumor.
Metastatic
Method of choice for viewing the gallbladder.
Ultrasound
How does HIDA scan reveal gallbladder pathology.
In the absence of disease, the gallbladder is visualized within 1 hour of the injection of the radioactive tracer. If the gallbladder is not visualized within 4 hours after the injection, this indicates either cholecystitis or cystic duct obstruction.
Which part of the duodenum has the worst prognosis when lesions are found?
4th part. All lesions are malignant tumors
What is the most common neoplasm of the bowel and the best imaging study to observe them?
Carcinoid tumors (tumors that secrete serotonin and kallikrein)
Small bowel follow thru: contrast ingested and images taken at time intervals
Imaging method of choice to confirm an appendicitis diagnosis.
CT
