Radiological interpretation Flashcards
Signs of pneumothorax
partial or complete collapse of lung
overexpansion of rib cage
depression of diaphragm
displacement of mediastinum away from affected lung
deep sulcus sign (pronounced costo-diaphragmatic angle)
Timeline for lung development
week 7 - tertiary bronchi
week 24 - 17 orders of branching, alveoli start to develop, breathing is possible but survival is unlikely
week 26-28 - sufficient alveoli to support life, type II pneumocytes have started to develop, infants born prior suffer from RDS
alveoli development continues until year 8
Loss of L. cardiac shadow indicates
disease process in the L. lingula
Diffuse alveolar and interstitial abnormalities indicate
Viral pneumonia
ARDS
Pulmonary edema
Coal workers pneumoconiosis radioogical pattern
Nodules, bilaterally in the upper lung zones
Nodules indicate:
silicosis sarcoidosis miliary TB metastatic cancer septic emboli Wegener's disease
Septal lines indicate:
interstitial edema
lymphangitic carcinomatosis
Reticular pattern
interstitial edema
pulmonary fibrosis
Airspace consolidation
pneumonia edema hemorrhage lymphoma bronchioalveolar carcinoma alveolar proteinosis
