radiological Flashcards
what is radioactivity?
is the property of radiation emission of a unstable atom to achieve its stable state
process referred to as transformation, decay or disintegration of an atom
what are the 4 types of ionizing radiation?
alpha particle
beta particle
gamma ray
neutron particle
what is acute radiation syndrome?
high exposure over short period of time onset of symptoms from hrs to days three main cate of symptoms - hematopoietic - gasintrointestinal - neurovascular
what is the occupational exposure limit?
20 mSv per year avg over 5 years
100mSv in 5 years
max of 50mSv per year
what is the public exposure limit?
1 mSv per year
avg over 5 years
what is the saf operational exposure?
250mSv cummulative lifetime limit
saf campaign commander can approve up to a max. of 750mSv
nothing more
what is saf training exposure?
up to 1mSv per year
what is the ALARA principle?
as low as reasonably achievable
what are the 3 principles of radialogical defense?
time - min exposure
distance - inverse sq law
shielding - thin layer lead gamma / water concrete neutron
what are the 2 non-coventional mode of delivery?
red - radiological exposure device
rdd - radiological dispersal device
