DP Hand
Centring Point: over the head of the 3rd metacarpal.
Collimation to include:
- distal phalanges
- the wrist joint
- the lateral soft tissue borders
DP Oblique
Centring Point: over the head of the 3rd metacarpal.

- the later soft tissue borders
PA Wrist
Centring Point: midway between the radial and ulnar styloid processes.
Collimation to include:
- proximal third of the metacarpals
- distal third of the radius and ulna
- the lateral soft tissue borders
Lateral Wrist
Centring Point: over the radial styloid process.
Collimation to include:
- proximal third of the metacarpals
- distal third of the radius and ulna
- the lateral soft tissue borders
DP Foot
Centring Point: over the base of the 2nd metatarsal.
Collimation to include:
- distal phalanges at the top
- tarsal bones inferiorly
- the lateral soft tissue borders side to side
DP Oblique Foot
Centring Point: over the base of the 3rd metatarsal.
Collimation to include:
- distal phalanges superiorly
- tarsal bones inferiorly
- the lateral soft tissue borders
AP Ankle
Centring Point: midway between the medial and lateral malleoli.
Collimation to include:
- distal third of the tibia and fibula superiorly
- talus inferiorly
- the lateral soft tissue borders
Lateral Ankle
Centring Point: overs the medial epicondyle.
Collimation to include:
- distal third of the tibia and fibula
- the calcaneum inferiorly
- base of the 5th metatarsal laterally
- the lateral soft tissue borders
AP Forearm
Centring Point: midway between the wrist and elbow joints
Collimation to include:
- wrist joint
- elbow joint
- lateral soft tissue borders
Lateral Forearm
Centring Point: midway between the two joints.
Collimaton to include:
- wrist joint
-elbow joint
- lateral soft tissue borders
AP Elbow
Centring Point: 2.5 cm distal to the midline of the humeral epicondyles (usually the crease of the elbow joint).
Collimation to include:
- distal third of the humerus
- proximal third of the radius and ulna
- lateral soft tissue borders
Lateral Elbow
Centring Point: over the lateral epicondyle
Collimation to include:
- distal third of the humerus
- proximal third of radius and ulna
- lateral soft tissue borders
AP Humerus
Centring Point: midway between shoulder and elbow joint on the surface of the arm.
Collimation to include:
- should joint superiorly
- elbow joint inferiorly
- lateral soft tissue borders
Lateral Humerus
Centring Point: midway between the shoulder and the elbow joint.
Collimation to include:
- shoulder joint superiorly
- elbow joint inferiorly
- lateral soft tissue borders
AP Shoulder
Centring Point: coracoid process.
Collimation to include:
- CV7 superiorly
- inferior angle of scapula inferiorly
- proximal third of humerus
- lateral soft tissue borders
AP Knee
Centring Point: middle of the tibial condyles (usually 2.5 cm below the apex of the patella).
Collimation to include:
- distal third of the femur
- proximal of the tibia and fibula
- lateral soft tissue borders side to side
Lateral Knee
Centring Point: over the medial tibial condyle (usually 2.5 cm behind and below the apex of patella).
Collimation to include:
- distal third of femur
- proximal quarter tibia and fibula
- lateral soft tissue borders
AP Tibia/FIbula
Centring Point: midway between knee and ankle joint.
Collimation to include:
- knee joint
- ankle joint
- lateral soft tissue borders
Lateral Tibia/Fibula
Centring Point: midway between the knee and ankle joints.
Collimation to include:
- knee joint
- ankle joint
- lateral soft tissue borders
AP Femur - Distal
Centring Point: mid shaft of the femur.
Collimation:
- knee inferiorly
- lateral soft tissue borders
- as much of the proximal femur as possible
AP Femur - Proximal
Centring Point: mid shaft of the femur.
Collimation to include:
- knee inferiorly
- lateral soft tissue borders
- as much of the proximal femur as possible
- hip joint
