Radio Waves Flashcards
What are electromagnetic waves made up of
made up of oscillation electric and magnetic field
What are alternating currents made up of
Oscillating charges
How do we generate electricity with radio waves
a transmitter is connected to an oscilloscope with generates a radio wave. A receiver then detects it again
What does an osiclloscope do
see the frequency of the alternating current and this determines the frequency wave that will be produced
What does a receiver do
It absorbs the energy and generates another alternating current and displays it on another oscilloscope
3 types of radio waves
long waves, short waves, very short waves
What are long waves
They can be transmitted huge distances with on interaction
How can long waves transmit huge distances
they bend around the curved surface of the earth
What are short waves?
they travel long distances but they can’t curve around the earth
How can short waves transmit through distances
They are reflected from the ionosphere so reflecting continuously allows them to cover large distances and short ones
What are very short radio waves
they are short distances like TVs and FM radios
How do they transmit through distances?
They travel directly from the transmitter to the receiver
