Radio Wave Propogation Flashcards
Radio wave propagation definition
“The behaviour of radio waves when they are transmitted or propagated from one point on earth to another, or into various parts of the atmosphere”
Space wave los communication definition
“The transmission of electromagnetic waves that travel directly through the earths atmosphere with reflecting off the ground”
3 types of radio wave propagation
Space wave propagation
Ground wave propagation
Sky wave propagation
Space wave propagation characteristics
Signals travel in a straight line
Frequency range: >30MHz
Ground wave propagation characteristics
Follows the curvature of the earth
Must be vertically polarised
Frequency range: >2MHz
Sky wave propagation
Frequency range: 3 to 30 MHz
Signals radiated by antenna where they are bent back to earth
Negative effects if multipath and fading
Makes received signal smaller
If phases add destructively, the signal relative to noise declines, making deflection more difficult.
