Q

Radio Transceiver - correct manipulation and adjustment of the controls

A

A typical Transceiver displays two radio frequencies at any one time. The left side is the active frequency and the right is the standby. The standby frequency can be changed using the frequency control knob. The knob has 3 modes and two course tune knobs. The Larger changes at one MHz intervals, the smaller knob at 0.05MHz intervals and by pulling the smaller knob out and turning it changes by 0.025MHz intervals. The white button switches between the active and standby frequency and the smallest knob controls volume.

Q

Correct operation of Hand-held mike

A

Simple oblong arrangement with a button or trigger which you push to engage and when released it returns to the off position some pilots are in the habit of placing the hand-held microphone on their lap instead of replacing it in its holder, this is not a recommended practice because any articles such as maps or manuals placed on the lap as well are likely to depress the transmit button, the problem is that you, the pilot, will not be aware that you are blocking the frequency because your own carrier wave does not normally come through your headset
