Affects the anterolateral area of the thigh.
Knee extension.
Hip adduction.
Patellar reflex.
L4
Affects the medial malleolus.
Knee extension.
Hip adduction.
Patellar reflex.
L5
Dorsiflexion of the affected toe (foot drop, muscle affected: tibialis anterior).
Sensation of the dorsum of foot and big toe.
Disc will decrease the power and tone.
DDx for L5
▪ L4-L5 posterolateral disc prolapse.
▪ L5-S1 extreme lateral disc prolapse.
▪ Common peroneal nerve injury.
▪ Parasagittal meningioma.
▪ Spinal tumor.
What we do in L5?
MRI & NCS
S1
Weakness: inability of eversion of foot.
Loss of planter flexion.
Achilles/ ankle reflex.
S2, S3, S4
Pudendal nerve.
Urinary incontinence (parasympathetic).
T2
Angina-like pain
