What is the effect of radiation on matter – alpha?
A
Ioninsation is very efficient with alpha, transfer of energy through electromagneitc coupling, if energy transferred is sufficient the electron is ejected from the atom.

What is scintillation counter?
A
The sample and scintillant molecules in the same solution. The beta particle from radioactive molecules strikes scintillant molecule transferring energy. Energy is reemit by scintillant molecule as flash of light. The flash of light is detected by photomultiplier tubes.
