What is RAD
Reactive attachment disorder
Child responds abnormally to attachment before the age of 5
Causes of RAD?
Due to persistent disregard for child’s emotional and physical needs
Repeated changes in care givers
RAD is not reversible. T or F?

What are the two subtypes of RAD?
Inhibited and disinhibited
What is inhibited RAD?
Child does not seek comfort from parent during times of stress
What is disinhibited RAD?
Child is overly friendly with strangers
Describe alien self
Child gets cues from parents
If parent is not reciprocal to child the child doesn’t know what’s going on and gets distressed
Over time child self esteem goes down cause mother doesn’t give baby time
How does RAD affect neurobiology
Life experiences have big impact on size and strength of neurones
Chronic difficulties lead to organic response eg high cortisol
This leads to frontal brain difficulties
Frontal brain controls sense and rational thought
How is RAD different from CD?
CD can make some relationships
How is RAD different from depression?
Depression often accept help
How is RAD different from autism?
RAD are more flexible than autism
How is RAD different from ADHD?
ADHD has difficulties in all centres
Treatments for RAD?
Family therapy Individual therapy Play therapy Medical therapy only for co-morbidities Special education interventions
What is CD?
Conduct disorder
Persistent behaviours that are not nice
Diagnosis of CD?
3 or more within 12 months or 1 in 6 months of:
Aggression, destruction of property, theft, serious rule violation
