RAD 1127 TERMS Flashcards
PNEUMOTHORAX
This is when a collection of air and gas from the pleural space surrounds the lungs and causes it to collapse.
FAT EMBOLI
An embolus that forms a blockage of an artery in the lungs, blocked by air, fat, clumped tumor cells or blood clot
DNR ( DO NOT RESUSCITATE)
PART OF ADVANCE HEALTH CARE DIRECTIVES
This is found in patients chart stating patients wishes or family wishes if patient cant communicate wishes, NOT TO PERFORM CPR. DNR ( ADVANCE HEALTH CARE DIRECTIVES)
DNI( DO NOT INTUBATE) ADVANCE HEALTH CARE DIRECTIVES
This is found in the patients Chart to inform health care workers not to intubate patients since it is there wishes.
HEALTH CARE PROXY ALSO KNOW AS ADVANCE HEALTH CARE DIRECTIVES
This is a written signed legal document of having a designated person speak for you about your medical wishes or direct them on medical care you will receive
2 types of HEALTH CARE PROXY
- LIFE SUSTAINING TREATMENT (DRUGS OR MACHINES) 2. ATRIFICIALLY PROVIDING YOU WITH FOOD AND HYDRATION (BY TUBE)
ELECTROCARDIOGRAM ABBREVATED
ECG OR EKG
ELECTROCARDIOGRAM
Is used to measure the hearts signal as it triggers each of the 4 champers of the heart making it pump (contract) Its measured using 10 electrodes that are attached to the skin 6 chest and 4 on arms/leg
P, QRS, T WAVES
WAVES OF EKG
Spikes and dips
P WAVES
Electrical activity of ATRIA (DEPOLARIZATION AND CONTRACTION)
QRS
Electrical activity of Ventricles ( Depolarization and contraction)
T WAVE
Electrical recovery of ventricles ( REPOLORIZATION OF VENTRICLES )
STRAIGHT LINE SEGMENTS
HEART IS RELAXED (ARTERIAL AND VENTRICULAR)
EKG
USED IF HEART CONDITION IS SUSPECTED
USES OF EKG
ASSES HEART RHYTHEM, POOR BLOOD FLOW TO HEART (ISCHEMIA), DIAGNOSE A HEART ATTACK , SEE FOR ENLARGE HEART
ISCHEMIA
MEANS POOR BLOOD FLOW TO HEART MUSCLE
PULMONARY FUNCTION
It is the lungs ability to exchange Co2 and O2 with the environment efficiently
ABG ( ARTERIAL BLOOD GASES)
This is a lab value used to meaure the arterial blood concentration for the O2, C02, Ph acidity and gases, can lead to hypoxemia ( insufficent o2 in blood)
HYPOXEMIA
This is a condition of insufficiency of oxygen found in the blood
HYPOXIA
A deficiency of oxygen in the tissues of the body
Signs of Hypoxia
Cyanosis, rapid pulse, rapid and shallow respiration and dyspnea
RESPIRATORY SYSTEM
EXCHANGE OF O2 AND CO2 WITH THE ENVIRONMENT AND THE CIRCULATORY SYSTEM
ALVEOLI
Microscopic vessel-lined sacs where exchange of gas O2 and CO2 takes place
FRACTION CONCENTRATION
FI02
