Contact hypothesis
The idea that the more people get to know members of a minority group personally, the less likely they are to be prejudiced against that group
Gender racism
The overlapping cumulative effect of inequality due to racism and sexism
Discrimination
Any act that treats people on a pulley or unfairly because of their group membership
Ethnocentrism
The belief that one’s own cultural society or group is inherently superior to others
Stereotype
In oversimplify or exaggerated generalization about a category of people
Prejudice
An attitude positive or negative toward people because of their group membership
Racism
A set of beliefs that one’s own racial group is naturally superior to other groups
Pluralism
Minority groups retain their culture but have equal social standing and society
Segregation
The physical and social separation of dominant and minority groups
Genocide
The systematic effort to kill all members of a particular ethnic, religious, political, racial or national group
Minority
A group of people who may be subject to differential and unequal treatment because of physical, cultural, or other characteristics, such as sex, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity or skin color
Dominant group
Any physically or culturally distinct a group that has the most economic and political power, the greatest privileges, and highest social status
Racial ethnic group
People who have distinctive physical and cultural characteristics
Ethnic group
A group of people who identify with it, national origin or cultural national origin or cultural heritage that includes language, geographical roots, food, customs, traditions, and/or religion
Race
Refers to people who share physical characteristics such as skin color facial features that are passed on through reproduction. Contrary to popular belief that race is determined biologically it is a social construct, A societal invention that labels people based on physical appearance
