R/U fractures Flashcards
Schmokel JSAP 2021
Prospective study
25 dogs, 7 cats, average 4kg
Simple closed RU #
All union
3% deep ssi
Higuchi JSAP 2021
Retrospective
RU diaphyseal # in toy dogs, average 3.5kg
Orthogonal plate, nonlocking cuttable
Cranial plate removed 40d postop
5% major complications (re # after plate removal)
Muroi VCOT 2021
Retrospective 236 # in toy breed dogs
Implant-induced osteoporosis on rads - index of pixel values cf humeral condyle
Sig decrease in pixel 1-12m postop
Implant-induced osteoporosis persisted in dogs >6mo for 1-12m
improved after 3m in <6mo
Aikawa VS 2019
140 distal RU # in toy/mini dogs
Free-form type II ESF
All healed
3% major complications
Aikawa VCOT 2018
ORIF 65 distal RU # in smal dogs
all healed
6% major copmlications
Makar JFMS 2024
Retrospective 49 cats
RU diaphyseal #
single vs double fixation
36% of single fixation had intact radius or ulna
No diff bwt double (8%) vs single (11%) major comp
single plate 14x more likely to have successful outcome
Angorro
Toy poodles R/U #
FEA - concentrated stresses in the distal regions of the toy poodle’s radius bones
Removal of 1.5 vs 2.0 LCP notched T plate
Plates with longer lengths showed a more uniform stress distribution on the one-third distal radius
Localized stress concentration is observed around the screw holes, while trabecular bone regions near the screw holes exhibit lower stress levels
