[All] praise is [due] to Allah, Lord of the worlds - The Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful, Sovereign of the Day of Recompense. It is You we worship and You we ask for help. Guide us to the straight path - The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor, not of those who have evoked [Your] anger or of those who are astray.

- Opening Chapter
- He alone is the sustainer of worlds
- Ultimate and only source of guidance mercy and forgiveness
- Only those who beg for guidance will receive it;
“And your Lord says; Call on me I shall answer your supplication.”
- Guidance to the right path
- Reward for the believers, and consequences for the disbelievers.
- Anger(jews) and Astray(Christians)

Importance
- Five Daily prayer, incomplete without it
- Communication with Allah
- Introduction of Allah
- Reminder of the Day of Judgment
- Reminder of the nations of the past; To not emulate them in their disobedience
- Urges muslims to ask Allah for guidance, so that we can prevail in both worlds
O mankind, worship your Lord, who created you and those before you, that you may become righteous - [He] who made for you the earth a bed [spread out] and the sky a ceiling and sent down from the sky, rain and brought forth thereby fruits as provision for you. So do not attribute to Allah equals while you know [that there is nothing similar to Him].

- Tawheed, through Allah’s Miracles
- Based in the concept of piety, gained through perpetual Zikr
- Emphasis that God created man and everything that surrounds him; Earth, sky, food and water;
“ Praise be to Allah, the cherisher and sustainer of worlds.”
- He is the master sustainer
- Condemns Shirk

Importance
- Out relationship with Allah, is that of a Lord with his slaves
- CONVEYS the message of Taqwa, and gratitude for his countless blessings
- MAKES Muslims realise that’s only Hr deserves praise and worship.
- MAKES Them grateful; Prayer, Fasting, Charity, Remembrance,
Recite in the name of your Lord who created - Created man from a clinging substance. Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - Who taught by the pen - Taught man that which he knew not.

- Makki Surah
- First revelation
- Discusses God’s power to create and sustain man, ensuring his survival
- He made man from low origins and matured him; physically, intellectually, spiritually, by teaching him to read and write
- Allah is the greatest teacher, as he teaches man knowledge of all sorts.
- Thus making him superior to other creatures;
“And he taught Adam the names of all things…”
- Iqra, encourages Muslims to gain knowledge
Al Alaq
Importance
- SHOWS God’s power by mentioning, he creates man from a spot of blood, and enabled him to gain knowledge
- ENCOURAGES Muslims to gain knowledge, as it serves as a liaison between God and man
- ALSO It is jihad to gain knowledge, to be oft one’s self and others
- HIGHLIGHTS Allah’s caste for his creatures, by sending scriptures so knowledge doesn’t elude them
- REMINDS Muslims of the continuation of the prophetic mission
When the earth is shaken with its [final] earthquake. And the earth discharges its burdens. And man says, “What is [wrong] with it?” - That Day, it will report its news. Because your Lord has commanded it. That Day, the people will depart separated [into categories] to be shown [the result of] their deeds. So whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it, And whoever does an atom’s weight of evil will see it.
AZ Zilzal
Az Zilzal
Theme
- Madni Surah
- Showcases the events of the day of judgement, which will see a titanic earthquake obliterate all that exists
- On that day the dead will arise as the earth relives itself from them;
“ And when the earth is flattened out. And throws out whatever it contains and gets empty .”
- People will be held accountable and justice will prevail.
- Emphasis that Allah is the Master of The Day of Judgement
Az Zilzal
Importance
- WARNING Muslims of that day, and its associated horrors.
This makes them
1) Give up sin
2) Instigates fear of Allah
3) Strive towards Allah
4) Causes them to repent
- UNDERSTAND That the punishment of sins is inevitable
- Makes them avoid even a mustard seed’s worth of sin(Zurrat)
- Prophet PBUH, declared this world as a cultivating ground for the hereafter
Say, “I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind,
The Sovereign of mankind.
The God of mankind,
From the evil of the retreating whisperer -
Who whispers [evil] into the breasts of mankind -
From among the jinn and mankind.”

- Makki Surah
- Last Surah
- Describe God as the cherisher and Sustainer
- Warns is against the evil whispers of Satan
- Only Allah can protect us from this internal evil
- Allah controls all
- Refuge must be sought in him from all evil;
“And if an evil whisper, comes to you from Satan, then seek refuge with Allah, verily he is the all hearer, All knower.”

Importance
- EMPHASIS the need to seek Allah’s protection
- Revealed when The Prophet PBUH, was inflicted with magic, and was sent to protect him along with Falaq
- So muslims recite it for protection
- UNDERSTAND that Satanic gullies, deceive them when they least expect them into committing sins
- If we trust Allah and seek salvation then no harm will come
