Piggy still has faith in the conch and civilisation but realises that Jack and his tribe don’t.

shows that Ralph is attempting to make a civilisation similar to the one he was used to back in England. Also shows how young the boys all are as they talk about school.

this shows that roger is soon going to stray from his trained behaviour. also hints to the idea that the civilisation that they have created will soon be destroyed

this shows that when the boys have their painted faces on, they are no longer themselves, but savages.

the boys become someone new, the word choice of ‘compelled’ suggests the masks control them

Piggy’s accent and asthma separates him from the other group of boys, he does not belong.

contrast between Ralph and jack. Ralph believes in maintaining the rules whereas jack doesn’t

the sun follows Simon as he moves. this suggests that Simon is a pure and innocent character

Simon’s death
dehumanises Simon by saying ‘it’s’. very brutal way of killing as the boys are ripping Simon apart with their teeth.

Ralph
Ralph is the only one to admit what they have done, all the other boys, even piggy, have been denying it. Even though Ralph took part in the murder he is the only one to admit his wrong doings.

This is roger abandoning civilisation as he, with full intention murders Piggy
“Ralph wept for the end of innocence, the darkness of mans heart, and the fall through the air of the true, wise friend called Piggy”
Ralph may have been weeping like a child but he’s not a child anymore. He’s lost the idea that anyone’s innocent.
