Quiz4 Flashcards
What types of NDT can be used on turbine engine inspections?
Magnetic particle, eddy current, dye penetrant, radio graphic.
What are the methods of inspection for engine overhaul?
Visual, NDT, measurement,
What should be inspected in the inlet duct?
Cracks and erosion. This is a line maintenance function.
What is the compressor section inspected for visually? Dye pen? Measurement?
Erosion, cracks, FOD, rub, and galling.
Vanes and blades, mag particle-disks, measurement, chord, creep, twist and bow.
What must the combustion section be checked for?
Cracks, warping, scorching, hot spots, shifted burner.
Why is the turbine section critical?
High temps!
What is primary creep?
Initial, normal growth of a new blade.
What is secondary creep?
Slow, normal growth of a blade over time.
What is tertiary creep?
Accelerated growth after overtemp.
How do you inspect the exhaust section?
The same inspection as the combustion section.
How to inspect turbine section?
Visually, for cracks, burns and erosion.
Dyepen, for stress rupture cracks.
Measurement, for creep twist and bow.
How may cracks in the combustion section be repaired?
By welding.
How may worn combustion liners be restored?
With ceramic or plasma coatings.
How is minor FOD in the stator rotor blades repaired?
By blending, must keep original contour.
What must be done when there is major damage to a rotor/stator?
The component must be removed.
