SMART objectives
specific measurable achievable realistic time-bound
Planning involves
Selecting the best intervention to meet the health need
Establishing goals and objectives
Selecting activities to meet objectives
Planning a logical sequence for implementing your intervention
Determining how outcomes will be measured
What are goals?
Broad, brief statements of intent
Provide focus/direction for work
Non-specific, non-measurable, rarely attainable
Ex: “Charleston county residents will be healthy”
What are objectives?
Provide realistic steps to attain goal
Must be specific, measurable, and achievable

2 types of objectives
process
outcomes
Process Objectives
Tell what you are doing and how you will do it
Describes participants, interactions and activities
Example:By June 2014, the PASOs program will train at least 15 community health workers on domestic violence resources in the Charleston area.
