Quiz Study Flashcards
Ionic compound
The combination of a metal and non-metal element.
Chemical change/bond
Covalent compound
A combination of a non-metal and a non-metal.
Atoms are joined when electrons are showed between each other eg: H2O
Ionic lattice
Ionic compound exist at a solid in the form of a lattice- a repeating pattern of proton and electron ions.
Polyatomic ions
Groups of atoms that are joined with covalent bonds.
They behave as a single unit, never wanna be split apart, eg: OH negative
Chemical formulas
A combination of symbols representing a particular compound.
(Gives the ratio of elements)
How are ionic compounds formed?
When metals give up an electron and non-metals gain an electron.
(Exchange)
Multivalent metals
Elements in the transition metals that have more than one ion charge.
(Roman numerals are used to show the charge)
