Quiz 4 Flashcards
is warm vertical compaction a more or less complex technique than lateral condensation?
more complex
T or F: the sealability of warm vertical compaction is inferior to that of lateral condensation
-false -it is comparable to that of lateral condensation
what are the indications for warm vertical compaction?
same as for lateral condensation
in what cases is warm vertical compaction preferred over lateral condensation?
-internal resorption -other situations involving internal morphologic complexities
what is the advantage of warm vertical compaction?
the ability to adapt the warmed and softened GP to the irregular surface architecture of the root canal system
what are the disadvantages of warm vertical compaction?
-increased difficulty of length control -more complicated procedure -larger assortment of required instruments -a somewhat larger canal preparation is necessary to allow insertion of the instruments to the required depths
gutta percha used in warm vertical compaction is ___
thermoplasticized
what type of pluggers are used in warm vertical compaction?
schilder
schilder pluggers begin at ___mm in diameter and increase by ___mm for each successive instrument
0.4mm (equal to ISO size #40) and increase by 0.1mm
what is the largest size schilder plugger?
1.1mm (equal to ISO size #110)
what is the outline of the warm vertical compaction technique?
-a GP cone that has a taper similar to that of the instrumented RCS short of the apex is fitted and heat is applied using a plugger -the GP is softened by the heat and becomes plastic -pluggers are placed in the canal using apical pressure to produce hydraulic force that moves the GP apically against the canal walls and into RCS irregularities like accessory and lateral canals -GP is then added in small increments, and each GP is heated and softened and packed vertical until the entire canal is filled
what does the access opening look like for maxillary molars?
what does the access opening of a mandibular first molar look like?
what does the access opening of a mandibular second molar look like?
what are the basic UUSOD instrumentation steps?
- access preparation
- find and file
- coronal preflare
- coronal prep
- working length w/radiograph
- glide path
- mid-root prep
- apical prep
- final irrigation with master cone fit
