quiz 4 Flashcards
where in the plant does photosynthesis occur?
chloroplast
what are the reactants and products of photosynthesis? How do the reactants get in the plant?
Reactants- H2O and CO2
Products- O2, sunlight and C6H12O6 (glucose)
CO2 gets in through the stomata, sunlight through chloroplasts, and water through the leaves
Which colors do chlorophyll a and b absorb and which do they reflect?
Chlorophyll a absorbs light in the blue-violet region, chlorophyll b absorbs red-blue light, and both a and b reflect green light (which is why chlorophyll appears green).
do small pigments or larger pigments travel faster on a chromatography strip? Will the small pigments be on the bottom or top?
small pigments travel faster and will be on the top
understand the results from all 3 experiments and review answers from lab
factors for separation of pigments on chromatography paper
Molecular size, solubility and affinity (stickiness to paper)
Wavelengths
shorter wavelengths have more energy (x-rays and gamma rays)
Longer wavelengths have less energy and are not as damaging (microwave)
