Quiz 3 - Elbow and Hand Flashcards
Peripheral Nerves
Radial, Median, Ulnar, Axillary, Subcutaneous
Where does the radial nerve flow?
Comes off posterior cord and supplies posterior arm/forearm muscles.
Muscles innervated by the radial nerve
Triceps Brachii, Forearm Extensors (ECRB, ECRL, ED, EI, ECU, EDM, etc.), Anconeus, Brachioradialis, rest of extensor group
Where does the Median N. flow?
Comes off Lateral/Medial Cord and down the inner arm, comes through the pronator teres and then becomes the anterior interosseous nerve (muscles of hand)
Muscles innervated by Median N.
Pronator Teres, FCR, Palmaris Longus, 1st/2nd Lumbricals, Opponens Pollicis, Abductor Pollicis Brevis, Flexor Pollicis Brevis, Flexor Digitorum Superficialis/Prefunds
Where does the Ulnar N. Flow?
Comes out of medial cord and out the cubital fossa, runs down the medial side of the forearm
Muscles innervated by the Ulnar N.
Flexor Carpi Ulnaris and the deep muscles of the hand (Palmaris Brevis, 3/4th Lumbricals, Palmar/Dorsal Interossei, and Adductor Pollicis)
Axillary Nerve Flow
Arises from the posterior cord
Muscles and structures innervated by the Axillary N.
Supplies the Deltoid, Teres Minor, skin of the upper arm.
Musculocutaneous Nerve Flow
Arises from the lateral cord and runs down the upper arm
Muscles innervated by the Musculocutaneous Nerve
Biceps Brachii, Brachialis, and Coracobrachialis
What are the 2 Compression sites and what/where are they compressing
Axillary Nerve Palsy and Pronator Teres Syndrome
ANP = Compressive Neuropathy over axillary nerve leading to shoulder weakness
PTS - Compression of median nerve at the pronator teres (big test is MMT to resist pronation)
What are the 2 things inside the Cubital Fossa
Coronoid and Radial Fossa (when elbow is max flexion, radial head enters radial fossa)
What attaches to the medial epicondyle?
Medial Forearm Flexors
What attaches to the lateral epicondyle?
Medial Extensors
What does the Capitulum do?
Accepts the radial head
