Quiz 2 Flashcards
Articulate Cartilage
Covers the head of the femur and the horseshoe shaped part of the acetabulum
Ligament of head of femur
Connects the head of the femur to the acetabulum
Aka ligamentum teres, foveal ligament
‘Teres’ means
Earth = Round
Acetabular Labrum
A fibrocartilagenous lip that attaches to the bony rim of the acetabulum
Functions to deepen the acetabulum (make the socket a deeper socket)
Acetabular Fossa
In the centre of the acetabulum
Fossa is occupied by a fat pad covered with synovium
Acetabular Notch
A notch between the two ends of the horseshoe
Passage for blood vessels
Iliofemoral ligament
Attaches: AIIS, acetabular rim to intertrochanteric line of the femur
Checks extension, abduction and lateral rotation
Pubofemoral ligament
Attaches: superior pubic ramus to iliofemoral ligament
Checks abduction
Trochanteric Bursae
Superficial: between the gluteus max muscle and the greater trochanter
Deep: another bursa between the gluteus medius and the greater trochanter
Weavers Bottom is
Bursitis of the ischiogluteal bursa
Overlies the ischial tuberosity
Horseshoe shaped
The articular surface of the acetabulum
Iliopectineal Bursa
Between the iliopsoas muscle and the iliopubic eminence
The Pubic Symphysis
The Joint between 2 bones
AKA pubis symphysis
Cartilaginous Joint
Limited Movement
The Sacroiliac Joint aka the SI joint
The joints between iliac and sacrum
Synovial joint
Limited movement
Anterior Sacroiliac ligament
Posterior Sacroiliac ligament
The Vertebropelvic Ligaments
Pelvis held together by ligaments
Ligaments and pubic symphysis progressively relax during pregnancy to allow passage of the fetus through birth canal
