Quiz 2 Flashcards
What are the global electromagnetic resonances, excited by lightning discharges in the cavity formed by the Earth’s surface and the ionosphere?
This global electromagnetic resonance phenomenon is named after physicist Winfried Otto Schumann who predicted it mathematically in 1952. Schumann resonances occur because the space between the surface of the Earth and the conductive ionosphere acts as a closed waveguide. The limited dimensions of the Earth cause this waveguide to act as a resonant cavity for electromagnetic waves in the ELF band. The cavity is naturally excited by electric currents in lightning. Schumann resonances are the principal background in the electromagnetic spectrum[1] beginning at 3 Hz and extend to 60 Hz,[2] and appear as distinct peaks at extremely low frequencies (ELF) around 7.83 (fundamental),[3] 14.3, 20.8, 27.3 and 33.8 Hz.[1][4]
What is the ability of certain materials to generate an electrical potential when they are heated or cooled?
Pyroelectricity; example - moxa
What is the ability of some materials to generate an electrical potential in response to applied mechanical stress?
Piezoelectricity - is the ability of some materials (notably crystals and certain ceramics) to generate an electric potential in response to applied mechanical stress. This may take the form of a separation of electric charge across the crystal lattice. Acupressure is a form of Piezoelectricity.
What is the main protein of connective tissue in animals?
Collagen is the main protein of connective tissue in animals and the most abundant protein in mammals. It is one of the long, fibrous structural proteins whose functions are quite different from those of globular proteins such as enzymes.
What is the Neo-Confucian concept that is the organizing principle of the Universe?
Li is an innate, dynamic patterns that allows things to follow their own nature as parts of a greater whole. “Li” means principle. It’s the organizing principle of the Universe - the matter energy – microcosm following the macrocosm.
There are two types of semiconductors used to flow electrons in one direction only in a P-N junction diode. What are they and which direction do they move electrons?
Two types = N Type - electron source which moves from excess to deficiency direction & P Type - electron sink. Electrons move in one direction - from N Type to P Type. It’s a movement of electrons through a crystalline matrix.
How do muscle motor points relate to acupuncture points?
Motor points are where nerve fibers enter a muscle bundle/neuromuscular junction. When utilized, motor points are able to release tightened muscles which have an effect on local and distal muscles relating to an area. A release is usually characterized by a twitch. A motor point re-sets muscle contraction tight bands and cause an action potential or “re-setting” of the muscle.
How do trigger points relate to acupuncture points?
Trigger points are used as a guide for pain reference and for locating motor point junctions. It is a localized area of the muscle or connective tissue, firmer than usual and sore on palpation. SOME acupoints correspond to trigger points.
