Quiz #2 Flashcards
What is a systemic error?
consistently causes measurement value to be too large or too small
What is a random error?
errors without a predictable pattern (cannot be prevented; machine)
What is accuracy?
how close measurements are to the actual value
What is precision?
the repeatability of measurements that show the same result result
What is Newton’s first law of motion?
-if an object isn’t moving, it’ll stay that way forever
-if an object is moving it will continue to move in the same direction with the same speed forever
-in order to an object’s state of motion, the forces must be unbalanced
Newton’s 2nd law of motion?
Sum of all forces acting on an object causes that object to accelerate
Newton’s 3rd law of motion?
-For every action there is an equal but opposite reaction
-for every force that one object feels, a second object feels the same magnitude of force in the opposite direction
-forces come in pairs
Define mass.
how many atoms and what kind
Define acceleration.
speeding up, slowing down, changing direction
Define normal force.
90 degrees; perpendicular; an object is pressed into a surface and is pushed back
Define force of gravity.
weight.
Define equilibrium.
All forces acting on the object have a net force of 0; forces balanced
What is a vector?
A arrow that has a direction and can be measured
Friction exists along what?
A plane of contact/parallel
Acceleration
Produced by force; inversely proportional to mass
