Quiz 2 Flashcards
Chemical reaction
A process, in which a substance is changed into one or more new substances
Chemical equation
Using chemical symbols to show what happens during a chemical reaction
Chemical symbols in equations
+ means “reacts with”
-> means “to yield”
Reactants
The starting materials in a chemical reaction (on the left side of the equation)
Products
The substance formed as a result of a chemical reaction (the right side of the equation)
The states
The states of the reactants and products are written and parenthesis to the right of each compound
g means Gas
l means liquid
s means solid
aq means aqueous solution
Subscripts
Subscripts present within a formula, and tell the number of atoms of each element in a molecule
الرقم الصغير اللي يسار العنصر تحت
Coefficients
Are inserted in front of a formula to balance the equation
المعاملات
Stoichiometry
The quantitative study of reactants and the products in a chemical reaction
Mole method
The stoichiometric coefficients in a chemical equation can be interpreted as a number of moles of each substance
Limiting reagent (limiting reactant)
Reactors used up first in a reaction
When does reactant is used up, no more product can be found
Excess reagents
The reactants present in quantities greater than necessary to react with the quantity of the limiting reagent
