Why does Golding use the repeated image of circles to demonstrate?
The circles symbolise unity and trust - within a circle, they are closed off, and no one can hide.
It also shows who is an outsider, for example, Piggy is always on the outside of the circle
How are the two sides of the island different from each other?
On the side with the boys built their huts and have the sea where they bathe, it is civilised and unfeared
However, when they enter the other side in the forest, they start their turning point into savagery, and it is feared by everyone
