Babylon

Assyria
A major ancient Near Eastern Empire, located in Mesopotamia, which dominated Israel and the entire region from the ninth through the seventh centuries BCE.
Canaan
Name of the region in Palestine, before being named Israel. (The land promised to Moses and the children of Israel, the land of milk and honey).
Canon
From a Greek term of “rule,” or “standard.” Any list of religious writings deemed authoritative.

Referring to the entire universe considered as an ordered whole, as opposed to the chaos that precedes and stands against cosmos.

A formal, sacred treaty or agreement between two parties with wash assuming obligation. Relationship between God and the Israelites.

Hebrew for “gods” or “God.” Most common name for God in the Tanak.

From the Greek, means letter.
Exile
The period during the sixth century BCE when part of the population of Judea was taken into captivity in Babylon.

A literary term designating literature according to basic, distinctive types.
Gospel
The Good News of Victory. Also the first four books of the New Testament.
Hermeneutics
An area of study dealing with the principles and process of the interpretation of the Bible or other literature.
Israel
The name of the 12 tribes that the Tanak says descended from the patriarch Jacob. A political destination for the people who inhabited the land of Canaan.
Jew
A designation of the people from the Judean Kingdom.
