What are the auscultation tips?
Breath deep and slow, listen for one whole inhalation and exhalation, start to listen near the bottom to detect astelectasis, listen from side to side at equivalent sites, note if breath sounds are equal and bilateral, and know thoracic landmarks and what coincides with what lobe of the lung

8 sites
How many sites do you auscultate anteriorly
6 sites
How many sites do you auscultate axillary
4 sites, 2 on each side
Crackles: what, when, where, why, intervention
What: Hair rubbing together or rice crispies
When: secretions(inhalation and exhalation); alveoli popping open(inspiration)
Where: peripheral airways(secretions) ; alveoli(atelectasis)
Why: secretions in the airways or alveoli popping open
Intervention: deep breath and cough
