Q

Outline Form

A

Shape/outline of the cavity preparation as it meets the external surface of the tooth.
Based on location and extent of carious lesion.
Keep plural floor at .5mm

Q

Enameloplasty

A

when pit/groove doesn’t penetrate to any great depth into the enamel and doesn’t allow for proper tooth prep margins.
Does not extend outline form

Q

Outline Form Rules

A
  1. Extend prep margin until sound tooth structure is obtained; no unsupported enamel remains
  2. Preserve cusp strength
  3. Avoid terminating margins on extreme eminences like cusp heights or ridge crests. (don’t go into cusps?)
  4. Extend to include all fissures that can’t be eliminated by appropriate enameloplasty.
  5. Restrict plural depth to .5 mm into dentin
  6. When 2 pit/fissure preps with less than 1mm tooth structure between them make it into one big prep.

A

Tooth and restoration must have resistance to fracture during mastication.
Resistance to fracturing for both tooth and material

Q

Resistance Form Principles

A
  1. Use box shape with flat plural floor
  2. Restrict extension of external walls
  3. Slight rounding of internal line angels (reduces stress)
  4. Provide thickness of restorative material (amgalam 1.5mm)
  5. Include weakened tooth structure in the preparation to prevent future fracture.

Q

Removal of Remaining Decay

A

Obvious.
When plural or axial wall has been established at proper tooth prep position and a small amount of carrie sits deeper, only remove this material (don’t extend the entire plural floor, just make a small hole)

17
Q

Infected vs Affected dentin

A

Infected: bacterial invasion has occurred, must be removed
Affected: decalcification preceding penetration of microorganisms. Can remain!!
