Quiz 1 Flashcards
How is the camera similar to the eyeball?
Focuses light with Lens, Controls exposure w/ Iris, and Imaging medium= Retina.
What are the additive primary colors of light?
red, blue, green
What is the difference between craft and artistry?
Craft- Activity involving skill
Artistry- Creative skill or ability
Why would you change the focal length, and how would you?
To increase magnification or get a wider view, and you change the (length of) lens to do this.
What is a crucial auto focus practice?
pressing the camera shutter halfway to see where the camera focuses.
What is Exposure?
How much light the image sensor in your camera is exposed to.
Three things that control Exposure?
Iso, Aperture, Shutter Speed.
What does Coverage mean?
To find the best scene or composition, shoot from dif. angles.
What is Image size, and Compression?
Image size- How many pixels are in the photo
Compression- Knocking the resolution down takes out some of the unnecessary pixels
What are the 6 steps in workflow?
Import, Organize, Select (keepers), Edit, Output, Backup.
Where and how might you organize your files?
Adobe Bridge, and in folders where you can specifically find the photos you want.
What does it mean to backup?
Have a hard drive to store photos on.
What is a pixel? How does it relate to resolution?
basic unit of programmable color in a computer image, and it relates to resolution because the more resolution the more pixels
What does the pixel dimension measure?
how many pixels are in the photo.
What three colors create a digital photo and make colors in the human eye?
Red, Green, Blue.
What are the primary colors of Ink?
Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black
There are two main color spaces, which is for print and which is for light based devices?
Cmyk= Print RGB= Light based devices
Will an image displayed on a screen match a print exactly, why?
No because of the different color scheme.
What will calibrating your devices do?
It will give you better focus, and more accurate colors.
What does ISO measure/ What are the ADV. and Disadv. of high ISO?
Light sensitivity. and/
How can an image become under exposed?
Not enough light fills the image making the image very dark.
When you increase and decrease a stop, what happens?
You either increase or decrease the shutter speed to compensate for the exposure.
What does PPI represent, and when does it matter?
Pixel per Inch, and it matters when sizing a photo for the web or when you’re printing a photo.
What are you doing when you resample an image?
When you change the resolution of the photo, or one portion of it such as the height or width the other reciprocates and changes with the new standard to form the best possible photo.
When would you sharpen an image?
When it is very soft.
Is it recommended to print a 72ppi image.
Probably not because the resolution would be low and in turn there are less pixels in the image which would make the image look weird and blurry.
What should you consider when choosing a printer?
Color, and quality
What are three advantages of Program mode over Auto mode?
You get to control the ISO, the flash does not play a factor, and you can control the aperture or shutter speed
Adv/Disadv. to selecting focus points?
Adv- you know where its going to focus
Disadv- Auto focus can get confused and lock sometimes or they don’t focus that well.
What does White Balance Reference/ When do you use it?
White balance adjusts the lighting in order to make white images in a photo look white, and you use them in different situations until you have a clear white in the photo.
Why would you change your Drive mode?
Learning to shoot in single frame mode helps you recognize the decisive moment more.
How do you calculate a safe shutter speed for handheld shooting?
Never go below your focal length.
What is Noise in Digital photography?
Grain on a photo
List basic editing step.
Specifying color management settings, Proofing an image, Identifying out-of-gamut colors, Adjusting an image and printing a proof, Save image as Cmyk eps file, Print
