What is a justice courts jurisdiction?
Justice courts have jurisdiction within their county concurrent with the circuit court in ALL criminal prosecutions except felony trials. Normally misdemeanors
How are justice court appeals handled?
If a justice court is NOT a court of record (most cases) it’s appeals go to the circuit court. If it IS a court of record, it’s appeals go to the court of appeals.
Municipal court jurisdiction
Have jurisdiction over violations of the city’s municipal ordinances and concurrent jurisdiction with circuit courts over criminal cases occurring within city limits.
