Quiz 1 Flashcards
Planes of sections
- Sagittal Plane
- Transverse Plane
- Frontal Plane
Sagittal Plane
seperates into left and right sections
Transverse Plane
Separates into superior and inferior sections
Frontal/Coronal Plane
separates into anterior and posterior planes
Superior
Above
Inferior
Below
Distal
farther from where the limb attaches to the body trunk
Proximal
close to where the limb attaches to the body trunk
Ventral
front or anterior
Dorsal
back or posterior
Superficial
close to bodies surface
Deep
far from bodies surface
Tuberosity
large rounded projection, may be roughened
Sulcus
groove or furrow in the bone
Facet
smooth, nearly flat articular joint
Tubercle
small rounded projection or process
Head
boney expansion carried in a narrow neck
Process
Any boney prominence
Foramen
round or oval opening through a bone
Anterior
Front
Posterior
Back
Medial
towards midline
Lateral
away from the midline
Rostral
Front aspect of the head
Caudal
away from the head or towards the tail
Plantar
Bottom of foot
Palmer
Palms
Flexion
movement that decreases angle of the joint, brings articulating bones closer together
Extension
Reverse of flexion, increases angle of joint
Hyperextension
extending past joints typical movements
Abduction
moving limb away from the midline
Adduction
lowering limb towards the midline
Pronation
Flipping palm to be face down
Supination
Flipping hand to be palm up
Elevation
lifting body part superiorly
Depression
Moving elevated body part inferiorly
Protraction
sticking out (tounge, jaw etc)
Retraction
pulling protracted part back in
Dorsiflexion
Lifting foot so superior part aproches shin, decreasing angle
Plantarflexion
pushing foot so superior section leaves shin, increasing angle
Circumduction
moving limb in cone like way (arm circles)
Opposition
touching thumb to the tips of your fingers
Inversion
Sole of foot turns medially
Eversion
sole of foot turns laterally
