Get in the habit of frequently checking your settings, both in the camera body and the

most used by still photographers but has value in video as well. It is selected via the menu. You can assign one of the USER buttons to it.
histogram
probably the easiest to use and most useful. The ___ is activated by pressing the USER 6 button. It creates an overlay of a pattern where the exposure (brightness level) exceeds a certain value in percentage.
zebra
part of the ZEBRA menu and is useful for targeted information on
specific parts of the scene. It is activated by cycling through the ZEBRA choices. A box appears in the middle of the LCD/EVF which you can position on a specific part of the subject by moving the camera. The brightness value of wherever the box is centered on is displayed as a percentage value on the left of the LCD.
