Quick Bio Recap Flashcards

1
Q

Oxidative phosphorylation

A

NADH and FADH lose hydrogen
The NAD and FAD are regenerated
Hydrogen atom is split into hydrogen ion and electrons
The electrons pass through the electron transport chain in the inner membrane of mitochondria
The energy released is used for oxidative phosphorylation to form ATP
The hydrogen ion and electron are finally accepted by oxygen to form water

Q

Explain why the tissue exhibiting the inflammatory response usually shows symptoms such as
redness, swelling and pain. (5 marks)

A

Nearby arteriole dilate
The increased blood flow to the a capillaries around the wound caused the wound to become red
The capillaries increase their permeability
Increasing the formation of tissue fluid and its accumulation, and leads to swelling
More tissue fluid pressed against nerve endings
Stimulating the pain receptor and gives the pain sensation

Q

Explain why people who have been vaccinated against flu are better protected than those who
have not.

A

Vaccine contain antigen of the virus
Which will stimulate lymphocyte to produce memory cell for that particular antigen
When the same type of antigen enters the body again
The memory cells can produce a larger amount of antibodies or killer T cell at a shorter period of time to act against the antigen.
