Practice sentences referencing how the の particle works.
わたしの でんわばんごう わ。。。
My phone number is…
たけしさんの でんわばんごう。
Takeshi’s phone number. (Note: Acts like a possessive)
だいがくの せんせい
A college professor. (Note: “せんせい” is the main idea, so it comes second)
にほんごの がくせい
A student of the Japanese language. (Note: Student is the main idea, “にほんご” is a describer)
にほんの だいがく
A college in Japan. (Note: Recognize how this translates to college IN Japan)
たけしさんの おかあさん は こうこうの せんせい です。
Takeshi’s mother is a high school teacher.
ハートさん は スウェーデンじんですか。
Ms. Hart, are you Swedish? (Note: Katakana is used for the foreign words, but the Hiragana modifiers “e.g. -じん” attach to the Katakana words)
The “の” particle is sometimes used as a possessive.

The most important noun comes first.
