Questions Flashcards
What would we see upon entering your classroom?
For what my room looks like: I use my classroom as an extension of the students learning, so you would see charts we have made together as a class, or our sight word wall. I like to display my students artwork around the room so they can feel some ownership of our space. And as for working: I use many different styles of learning, so you would possibly see the children at the carpet area for large group instruction, or they could be working in groups or pairs, or off work individually on an assignment.
For an example this year for reading I always started by teaching large group to go over our new focus sound and our new sight words for the week. Then we would start our daily five work where the students would independently choosing the station they want to work on. While the student are working independently I would pull small groups to work with me on some reading skills.
How do you manage your classroom?
I only have three rules in my class: 1.respectful, 2.responsible, 3.safe. I set high expectations for my students. I communicate my expectations with my student by teaching them each of the behavior standards that our school has set individually, and I have them using a self reflection rubric so they know and communicate home to mom and dad how they are doing each week.
We also used the zones of regulation in our classroom which is a tool to help the students learn to recognize and acknowledge their feelings and gives them tools to help them self regulate.
