- Goes back to the heart of their history, all the way back to John Wesley.
- It rejected Wesley’s inbred sin argument, which was initially an accepted belief among Pentecostals.
- Finished Work = Finished work of the Cross.

Who was William H Durham?
- Pastor of North Avenue Mission in Chicago.
- Baptized in the Spirit at Azusa (1907).
- Originally taught Wesleyan view, but after his trip to LA, determined not to preach that anymore.
- He published The Pentecostal Testimony.
What were Durham’s beliefs?
- Sanctification given at moment of conversion.
- Finished Work = finished work of Christ on the Cross.
- No need of 2nd work, since one was perfectly sanctified at conversion.
- After conversion, the Christian would grow in grace.
Durham at Azusa Street:
- In 1911, Durham preaches his Finished Work message at Azusa St while Seymour is away.
- At this time, just a small black church.
- Crowds flocked to hear Durham.
- Seymour hears, he comes back, and padlocks the door.
Southern movements that rejected Finished Work doctrine:
- Church of God
- Pentecostal Holiness Church
- COGIC
