When on person dictates the law and can get given advice but usually ignores it.
Who was Kaiser Wilhelm II
The autocratic leader who was forced to stand down by his own people in 1918.
What was the Weimar Republic
The name of the Democratic that took the place of the Kaiser.
What was the treaty of versailles
The peace agreement at the end of WW1. It weakened Germany in a massive way.
What was Proportional Representation
The voting system used in the weimar republic it made a strong and decisive government impossible.
What were left wing extremists
They were extreme communists who wanted to see Weimar Republic fail.
What were right wing extremists
Believed that the Weimar Republic was failing Germany and needed to replaced with Autocracy.
What was the DAP and the NAZIS
The DAP was originally full of working people. But then Adolf Hitler took it over and called it the national socialist party.
What were the years of recovery
In the middle of the 1920s the threats of extremists to the Weimar Republic declined, and in 1924 - 1929 it looked like a democracy might work in Germany.
What was a depression when talking about a country
A depression is when a country dramatically runs out of money. This happened to Germany during 1929 and 1932
What was a dictatorship
The NAZI party took power through democracy in 1933 once Adolf Hitler was head of Weimar republic he set about closing down democracy and creating autocracy.
Totalitarianism
Once Adolf Hitler had autocratic control he created totalitarianism in Germany. This is autocracy taken to the point where the freedoms of the people in a country are extremely limited.
