Questions Flashcards
How/when do objects have energy of motion or stored energy?
Energy of Motion is transferred from one object to another - bowling ball hitting a pin.
Stored Energy is object can move without touching another object - apple falling from a tree due to gravity pulling in it.
Describe what happens when different objects collide under different conditions (weight/speed).
When objects collide energy is transferred from one object (rolling) to the other(still).
- same weight ( two soccer balls): still ball moves at the SAME SPEED as the rolling object
- different weight ( bowling ball an pin): still pin (light) moves at FASTER SPEED than rolling ball (heavy)
How does sound start?
Sound starts with vibration.
A soccer ball vibrates when you kick it.
A floor vibrates when you stomp on it.
Drum and guitar vibrate when you play them.
What happens when light bounces off of an object?
When light bounces off an object and into your eyes, the object looks a certain way. It can:
- Reflect…mirror
- Pass Through…air, glass and water
- Absorb…black shirt…heats up.
What are the three ways in which energy can be transferred without moving objects?
- Sound…vibration…jumping on floor
- Light…flashlight heat up paper
- Heat….
