Tell me how you would check that the brakes are working before starting a journey.
When you start driving, apply the brake, it should not feel spongy or slack.
Show me how you would check that the direction indicators are working.
Turn on hazard warning lights, walk around car checking indicator bulbs.
Identify where the windscreen washer reservoir is and tell me how you would check the windscreen washer level.
Look through the lid or spot the level through the plastic of the container. The windscreen washer bottle usually has a lid with a windscreen symbol and the fluid is usually bright coloured.

Apply footbrake, then release and reapply parking brake. It should be secure and not at the end of its working travel.
Open the bonnet, identify where you would check the engine oil level and tell me how you would check that the engine has sufficient oil.
Ensure that the engine is cold.
Locate and pull the bonnet release handle, raise and support the bonnet with the strut. Indenting the dipstick. Remove it and wipe. Replace it fully and remove a second time, observe oil level relative to max and min markings. Replace dipstick securely.
Open the bonnet, identify where you would check the engine coolant level and tell me how you would check that the engine has the correct level.
Identify high/low markings on the header tank or show how to remove the radiator fill cap. Describe how to top it up to correct level using either water or radiator coolant diluted to correct level with water.

Should be adjusted so the rigid part is at eye and ear level and in the centre of your head.
Open the bonnet, identify where the brake fluid reservoir is and tell me how you would check that you have a safe level of hydraulic brake fluid.
Locate reservoir (contains oil coloured fluid). Check fluid level in bottle is between high and low markings on the side of the translucent bottle.
Tell me how you would check the tyres to ensure that they have sufficient tread depth and that their general condition is safe to use on the road.
There should be no cuts etc. Tread depth should be a minimum of 1.6mm across the middle three quarters of the tyre’s circumference. A tread depth gauge should be used.

Locate and press the horn.
Show me how you would clean the windscreen using the windscreen washer and wipers.
Operate control to wash and wipe windscreen.
