How would you check the brakes are working?
-Brakes shouldn’t feel spongey
-Tested as you set off
-Vehicle shouldn’t pull to one side
Where would you find information on the tyre pressure and how should the pressure be checked?
-Check manual and use a reliable pressure gauge
-Check tyres when cold
-Check spare tyre and valve caps
How would you check the tyres to ensure sufficient tread depth?
-Check that there are no cuts or bulges
-Minimum of 1.6mm of tread required across the central three quarters of the breadth of the tyre and the outer circumference of the tyre
How would you know that there is a fault with the anti-lock breaking system?
-A warning light would show up on the dashboard panel
How would you check the head restraint is properly adjusted?
-It should be level with the eyes and ears and as close to the back of the head as comfortable
-To demonstrate push the head restraint up then hold the button and push the head restraint back down
How would you check the headlights and tail lights are working?
-Dial would be turned twice to the right for main beam
-To demonstrate switch ignition on and turn dial twice to the right and offer to walk round and check
-Turn the dial twice to the left to cancel and switch ignition off
How would you check the direction indicators are working?
-Indicator stick pushed down for a left signal and up for a right signal
-Pushing the hazard button will operate all of the signals
-To demonstrate switch ignition on and push indicator down and up and down to cancel
-Then push hazard button offer to walk around and check then cancel and switch ignition off
How would you check the brake lights are working?
-Brake pedal would be pressed lightly
-To demonstrate press brake pedal lightly
-State if you were on your own you could reverse up to a reflective surface to check or if you were with someone they could check by walking to the rear of the car
How would you check the power steering is working?
-When the engine is off the wheel would be stiff when pulled and when the engine is on the wheel would move freely when pulled
-To demonstrate pull wheel left and right when engine is off and then switch the engine on and pull wheel gently to the left and right when the engine is on
-Then switch the engine off
How would you switch the headlights from dipped to main beam?
-Dial would be turned once to the right for dipped and once more to the right for main beam
-To demonstrate switch the ignition on and turn dial once to the right then once more
-Then turn dial twice to the left to cancel and switch the ignition off
How would you switch on the rear fog lights and when would you use them?
-Dial would be turned twice to the right for main beam and then rear fog light button would be pressed
-To demonstrate switch ignition on and turn dial twice to the right for main beam and press rear fog light button
-State these would be used when visibility is below 100m
-Then turn dial twice to the left to cancel and switch the ignition off
How would you check the oil levels are correct?
-Open bonnet and identify the oil dipstick
-State you would pull the oil dipstick out to wipe it clean and you would push it back in again
-Then you would pull it out a second time to check the oil level was between the minimum and maximum markers
-Then close the bonnet
How would you check the engine coolant levels were correct?
-Open bonnet and identify engine coolant
-Check and state the fluid is between minimum and maximum markers
-Then close the bonnet
How would you check the brake fluid levels were correct?
-Open bonnet and identify brake fluid
-Check and state the fluid is between minimum and maximum markers
-Then close the bonnet
How to clean the front windscreen?
-Push front windscreen stick in and let go
