Rutter (1979): Questionnaires - Practical Issues
A
Useful for gathering large quantities of basic factual educational info quickly + cheaply - R used q to collect large quantities of data from 12 inner London secondary schools
- From this, was able to correlate achievement, attendance + behaviour w variables eg. school size, class size + no staff - v difficult to do this w more labour-intensive methods eg. interviewing or observation
Data generated by q is often limited + superficial - in Rutter’s study, data showed correlations bw variables such as class size + achievement but not explanations for this
