  • Provide 4 points of information that answer the question asked
  • Take a new sentence for every point that you make.
    example - Describe the triangular trade system:
    The slave trade triangle began at British ports when slave ships left filled with manufactured goods to exchange for slaves in West Africa. (1 mark)

How do you answer an Explain question (6 marks)

A
  • Provide 6 facts and explain each back to the question
  • Fact - stem - because -explain
    Example - Explain the reasons why the slave trade had a negative impact on the development of the caribbean islands:
  • Disease spread which had a negative impact on the caribbean because all of the native people were wiped out which meant that the island lost its native population.

How do you answer a How fully Question (6 marks)

A

Question may ask you to either describe or explain.
1) Make a judgement on how fully
2) Use the source up to 3 times
3) Add up to 4 points of recalled information- These must link back to the question
1. The source provides some important information on……., however it does not fully tell us everything
2. The source tells us, “Quote,”This tells us (explain in your own words)
3. The source also states, “Quote,” This tells us (explain in your own words)
4. Thirdly the quote says, “Quote,”This tells us (explain in your own words)
5. However the source is less full as it fails to mention (recall fact which relates to the question asked)
6. The source also fails to mention (recall fact that relates to the question given)

How do you answer a To What Extent question (9 marks)

A
  1. Provide some background information (2 lines) or state the things you are planning to discuss in the short essay. (1 Mark)
  2. Factor 1

  7. Decide on 1 factor that is most important and provide a reason why you have chosen it
  8. You also have to add the stem to 2 factors

A
  1. The source was written by …… this is useful because…..
  2. The date is….. meaning it is a primary/secondary source this is useful because it is from the time of the slave trade/ benefit of hindsight
  3. The purpose of the source is to educate/inform,record, this is useful because it provides detailed and accurate information
  4. The source says, “quote” this is useful because it is accurate x2
  5. The source is less useful as it does not mention (recall your own info)

Visitor - useful because it is an eye witness account
Modern Historian - researched the slave trade and has expert knowledge
