identify
why was the text made? (e.g personal, public, occupational/part of a job, educational)
sequencing
read the sentences for clues as to which order they go in. people will be introduced by name first.
explain
infer meaning from text info.
summarise
give the key points from the text, with a mark a point. it must be YOUR OWN WORDS.
synthesise
summary of a specific topic across all texts, with some comparison.
compare/contrast
look for similarities and differences, refer to the texts by name, “In text X….”
how does the writer
if asking about convincing or persuading, look for persuasive techniques and EXPLAIN the effect on the reader.
what impressions
include the impression and evidence (the text gives the impression that….because….)
explain
could be how, what or why. read the question for key words, use PEE or bullet points but explain every point
