Question 2 - The Contact Process Flashcards
Write an expression for the equilibrium constant Kp.
Kp = pReactants^x / pProduct^x x pProduct^x
What happens to the equilibrium constant when the pressure, concentration, or volume is changed?
No change, only depends on temperature.
What happens to the position of equilibrium as the pressure is raised?
Moves the equilibrium position to the side with the fewest molecules (moles).
What happens to partial pressure when pressure increases?
All partial pressures will increase due to total pressures increasing., pa = xaP(total). In order for K to remain the same the pp of the things on the side of the equilib shift will increase more markedly.
If the reaction is exothermic what happens to the position of equilibrium when temperature increases?
What happens to the value of Kp?
Moves to the left. Le chatelier.
Decreases.
If the reaction is exothermic what happens to the position of equilibrium when temperature decreases?
Equilib will move to the right, as this generates heat.
How do you write an expression for K?
K = [products]^x/[reactant]^x[reactant]^x
